Step 2: Getting Set Up at Home
After enrollment, our focus shifts to getting everything in place. Within the first day or two, here’s what to expect:
- Delivery of necessary medical equipment
- Medication orders placed by our hospice physician
- Initial visits from nurses, aides, and other team members
- Support for family members and caregivers
This stage moves quickly, but our staff will walk you through each piece, making sure nothing feels rushed or unclear.

- Who qualifies for hospice in California?
Eligibility is based on a physician’s judgment of a life expectancy of about six months or less if the illness follows its usual course, and the election of hospice for comfort focused care. - What does Medicare cover on hospice?
Coverage includes medications, equipment, and supplies related to the terminal diagnosis, regular visits by nurses and aides, social work and chaplain support, 24/7 on call, and bereavement support. Room and board is not covered unless short term inpatient care is required for symptom management. - How fast can hospice start?
Often the same day after eligibility is confirmed. Admissions and on call nursing support are available 24 hours a day.
