Hospice care involves managing all the needs of a patient, from emotional, spiritual, and physical, because all three have a profound impact on the patient’s condition. At Maxcare Hospice, physical care is an important service that we offer to make sure our patients are comfortable and live their days with compassion and dignity.
Different Physical Care Services
The goal of effective hospice care is to alleviate the patient’s pain and manage the symptoms using a variety of different methods with a focus on patient-first care. At Maxcare Hospice, you are more than just a statistic, and we go the extra mile to prove this.
- Pain and symptom management. At Maxcare Hospice, our care team, consisting of physicians and nurses, has specialized knowledge of medical care that includes pain management and controlling our patients’ levels of discomfort. This type of medical support is not intended to cure the illness but to allow the patient to live out their days in comfort with a focus on a high quality of life. This includes administering medication, wound care, providing breathing relief and making sure the patient is not in pain.
- Daily living activities assistance. The dignity of our patients is our top priority at Maxcare Hospice, and so we provide assistance with daily living activities like bathing, dressing, and grooming to practice good hygiene.
- Monitoring vital signs. Our care staff like nurses will regularly monitor the patient’s vital signs and make note of any changes in their conditions so the care plan can be adjusted.
- Providing comfort. The patient’s comfort and mental health are linked, so when the patient is feeling high levels of discomfort, this can take a toll on their mental health. To keep our patients comfortable, we can adjust their positions in bed to prevent bed sores and use specialized pillows for added comfort.
- Physical therapies. Physical therapy can help our patients manage pain, improve mobility, and prevent harmful falls. Therapy can also include massage carried out by a qualified professional, and occupational therapy can help patients maintain independence with adaptive equipment.
