The emotional needs of patients play a very big part in hospice care. At Maxcare Hospice, we understand this, and that’s why our care team provides not only physical support but also emotional support for patients and their families.
During this period in their lives, it’s common for patients to feel complex emotions ranging from anger and confusion to sadness, regret, and anxiety. Sometimes these feelings can overwhelm patients and affect their physical well-being as well. The experienced care team at Maxcare is equipped to handle these emotions compassionately. Our team members listen to their patients’ needs to provide them with the highest level of emotional care. This level of care is also directed at family members.
We are able to provide emotional support through a variety of different ways:
Tailored Approach
We understand that every patient has different needs, and we cannot use a one-size-fits-all approach. To better understand the unique needs of each patient, our care members take the time to actively listen to the patient’s thoughts, wishes, and fears by creating a safe space free of judgment. This way, they can create a care plan that offers comfort and use strategies to alleviate emotional stressors.
Tools and Resources for Emotional Support
We use various resources to ensure that our patients’ emotional needs are met. One of the common resources we use is counseling. Our compassionate and skilled counselors provide a safe space for patients and their family members to express their feelings and offer ways to overcome their challenges. Sometimes just lending a listening ear can make the world of a difference. Group support sessions can also be beneficial for family members and patients looking to connect with others experiencing the same emotional turmoil.
At Maxcare Hospice, we also use other strategies like music therapy, spiritual support, and bereavement care to help our patients and their families.
