The emotional needs of patients play a very big part in hospice care. This means seeing and supporting the heart. At Maxcare Hospice, we understand that emotions run deep during this time. Patients and their loved ones will feel complex emotions ranging from anger and confusion to sadness, regret, and anxiety.
Our care team is trained to recognize and respond to these emotions compassionately and with respect. At Maxcare Hospice, you are never alone on this journey.
Tailored Approach
We understand that every patient has different needs, and we cannot use a one-size-fits-all approach. To better understand the unique needs of each patient, our care members take the time to listen to the patient’s thoughts, wishes, and fears by creating a safe space free of judgment. This way, we can craft care plans that help soothe emotional stress.
At Maxcare Hospice, we pay special attention to the nonverbal cues and body language of our patients as they can tell us a lot about how the patient is feeling. This is really important for patients who struggle to communicate with words.
Tools and Resources for Emotional Support
We use various resources to ensure that our patients’ emotional needs are met.
One of the common resources we use is counseling. Our compassionate counselors provide a safe space for patients and their family members to express their feelings and offer ways to overcome their challenges. Sometimes just lending a listening ear can make the world of a difference. Group support sessions can also be beneficial for family members and patients looking to connect with others experiencing the same emotional turmoil.
Our emotional support for grieving families can include services like emotional check-ins, grief counselling, and referrals to other community support groups.
At Maxcare Hospice, we also incorporate music therapy, spiritual support, and bereavement care to ease anxiety and offer emotional support. Listening to a song, a moment of prayer, or reflecting can help bring our patients peace.
