At Maxcare Hospice, we believe that honoring a veteran’s service means more than just saying “thank you.” We believe it means providing care that reflects the depth of their sacrifice. Our end-of-life care honors veterans and their loved ones with respect and compassion. We understand that veterans will require tailored care that honors and recognizes their service.
As a 4-Star level, We Honor Veterans-accredited hospice, we strive to celebrate and embrace each patient’s day with compassion, comfort, and dignity. Our care team walks beside them every step of the way.
Tailored Veterans’ Hospice Care
Every person deserves care that honors their life story, and our care recognizes the courage, sacrifice, and hardship our veterans experienced. At Maxcare Hospice, we understand that the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of the patient can be complex. Many veterans have experienced extreme levels of physical and emotional pain during their time in service, and dealing with a life-altering or terminal illness can feel triggering. To help, we offer thoughtful and personalized care.
At Maxcare Hospice, we have experience dealing with the complex emotions that veterans will feel during this time, and our care team is equipped to support them with:
- Emotional care
- Specialized physical care for pain management
- Spiritual care
We recognize that for many veterans, accepting or asking for help can be difficult, whether it’s from past experiences or their training. Our team understands this and works hard to build trust through compassionate listening, genuine commitment, and respectful dialogue.
As proud partners of the We Honor Veterans program run by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, we are specially trained to provide support that meets veterans where they are.
Common Challenges Veterans Face
Because of their experience in service, veterans will often face challenges that civilians may not. Our care team is ready to provide gentle care while supporting them through the complexities of challenges like PTSD and survivors guilt.
- Post-traumatic stress disorder. One of the most common emotional challenges that veterans have to deal with is PTSD. An annual report from the National Center for PTSD showed that 38% of the 5.8 million veterans who served in 2024 suffered from PTSD. The symptoms can make a medical condition worse. But our patients are never alone. We are here to ease these emotional burdens.
- Chronic Pain. The physical demands of military service can result in conditions like chronic pain, which will require pain management through medication and holistic practices like relaxation therapies and physical therapy.
- Traumatic brain injury. Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are sadly common amongst veterans and can have long-term effects on patients’ lives, like physical, cognitive, and psychological impairments. Our team is trained to recognize and respond with care strategies that honor the patient’s dignity.
- Survivors guilt. Survivor’s guilt, also known as unresolved guilt, is commonly experienced during a terminal illness. Our bereavement specialists and spiritual counselors will help patients manage these symptoms in a supportive space.
