Midway City is a small unincorporated community in Orange County (ZIP 92655). It is surrounded mostly by Westminster, with Huntington Beach along its southwest edge. Maxcare Hospice’s office is in Westminster at 13800 Arizona St #201, so Midway City families work with a team based in the same neighborhood.
Who we are
Maxcare Hospice is a Vietnamese American family-owned hospice that has cared for Orange County families since 2011. Our nurses, aides, and office staff include Vietnamese speakers, so parents and grandparents can describe how they feel in their own words, and adult children do not have to translate every visit. Maxcare is Medicare-certified and ACHC-accredited. We are a We Honor Veterans partner hospice.
What hospice care at home includes
Hospice focuses on comfort and quality of life when a cure is no longer the goal. Care comes to the place your loved one calls home: a private home, a board and care home, assisted living, or a skilled nursing facility. The care team includes nurses, hospice aides, a medical social worker, a chaplain, and trained volunteers, working with your loved one’s own doctor and our hospice medical director.
Families in Midway City can expect: – Nursing visits for pain and symptom management, with a nurse available by phone between visits – Aide help with bathing and personal care – Social work support with planning, paperwork, and family meetings – Spiritual care that respects each family’s faith and traditions – Respite care: a short stay, on average 1 to 5 days, in a licensed skilled nursing facility, arranged in advance so family caregivers can rest – Grief support for the family – Care shaped for veterans through our We Honor Veterans program
The four Medicare levels of hospice care
Medicare defines four levels, and the team and doctor choose the one that fits, which can change from day to day. Routine home care is the most common: scheduled visits, pain and symptom management, help with personal care, and a nurse a phone call away. Continuous home care provides mostly nursing care at home for extended hours during a short crisis, such as pain or breathing that is hard to control. General inpatient care is used when symptoms cannot be managed at home. Respite care gives family caregivers a break while their loved one stays in a licensed skilled nursing facility for a short, planned stay.
Does Medicare pay for hospice?
According to Medicare.gov, Medicare Part A covers hospice for people who qualify. The hospice doctor and your regular doctor (if you have one) certify a terminal illness with a life expectancy of 6 months or less if the illness runs its normal course, and the patient chooses comfort care instead of treatment meant to cure the illness. For patients who qualify, the benefit covers care related to the terminal illness, including medications for pain and symptoms and medical equipment. Our team can explain eligibility, coordinate with your doctor, and check other coverage such as a Medicare Advantage plan.
